TUMIQUI Smart Kit

Products and services

In health posts without electricity in Senegal, night deliveries were done by torchlight. The midwife held a small torch between her teeth while she worked. That is what SUCRECUBE Japon found in 2019, when it brought electricity to its first health post.

The TUMIQUI Smart Kit is a portable solar power unit built to give such schools and health posts a power supply they can use from the day it arrives. The panel is connected to the unit with a cable and switched on. No installation work and no electrician are required.

Deployments

Client Deployment
UNICEF Gambia 147 units in 122 schools
IOM (International Organization for Migration), The Gambia 45 units at 3 border sites
Ministry of Education, Senegal Primary and lower secondary schools, under a memorandum of understanding
Ministry of Health, Senegal 10 health posts without grid power, under a memorandum of understanding (2019)

At the first school equipped in Senegal, the pass rate for the primary school leaving exam was reported to have risen from 31% to 77% the following year. Power and video teaching materials are part of the conditions that support teachers’ work in class. In health posts, the kit is used for night consultations and deliveries. In the health posts the company has electrified, more than 600 deliveries have taken place with electricity. A health post manager said: “We can work at night now. We even used it for a delivery.”

Equipment connected to it

The TUMIQUI Smart Kit is a power source. What creates value in the field is the equipment connected to it. Over eight years, SUCRECUBE Japon has checked, site by site, what each piece of equipment changes.

Connected equipment What happened in the field
Television The ministry’s official teaching videos are shown in class. A village school with no electricity has the same material as a city school
Printer Teaching material and exam papers are printed on the spot. In Casamance, one health post used to take the boat to town for a photocopy. It now prints in the consultation room
Small medical equipment Ultrasound scanner, centrifuge, a PC for patient records
Wi-Fi router Activity reports are sent to the Ministry of Health from the post. The post used to close for a day so someone could take the report to town. That closing day is gone

The combination of equipment is designed by SUCRECUBE Japon according to the use. The pairing of the TUMIQUI Smart Kit with a Seiko Epson printer is being tested in three health posts in Casamance. These three posts were equipped in 2026 under the JICA Biz programme of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency).

Why it is chosen

Anyone can use it. In an emergency there is no room for complicated steps. Connect and switch on. The kit is built so that this is enough. A teacher at an equipped school said: “You just put the USB stick in the television. Even I can do it, and I am not good with machines.” In the schools where use took hold, this simplicity was decisive.

It lasts. It has been in service for more than five years in the heat, humidity and dust of West Africa. The product was improved in the field, not in a laboratory. The battery was raised from 580 Wh to 864 Wh at the request of users who wanted more hours at night.

It can be repaired locally. Much foreign assistance ends at installation. To avoid this, SUCRECUBE Japon set up a wholly owned subsidiary in Senegal, TUMIQUI JAPON SASU, and trains technicians there. Every hour of downtime is an hour without lessons and without consultations. Maintenance is carried out from Senegal, not from across the sea.
