Background
In rural Gambia, schools have no electricity or face frequent power cuts. UNICEF chose the TUMIQUI Smart Kit for a programme bringing power and teaching videos to 122 schools. Before signing, UNICEF visited equipped schools in Senegal. The review covered the results and the operating arrangements, not only the equipment.
At the first primary school in Senegal equipped with a TUMIQUI Smart Kit, the pass rate for the primary school leaving exam was reported to have risen from 31% to 77% the following year. Power and video teaching materials are part of the conditions that support teachers’ work in class. That accumulated record is what UNICEF came to see.
What was installed
Each school received a TUMIQUI Smart Kit and a television. Teachers were trained at handover. Connect the solar panel, switch on the unit, plug the USB stick into the television, and the lesson can begin. No installation work and no electrician are needed. Delivery, installation and training for the 147 units were carried out on site by the technicians of the Senegalese subsidiary.
Result
In May 2026, delivery, installation and training for all 147 units were completed. SUCRECUBE Japon signed the contract directly with UNICEF, without a consulting firm or trading house. As a registered vendor on the UNGM (United Nations Global Marketplace), the company responds to further tenders through the same procedure.
